"Palm Handheld Lifestyles" September 20, 2006 SHOW NOTES Palm OS / PalmSource News At this point, it looks as if the Palm OS landscape is changing. PalmSource is completely focused on it's next version of the Palm OS, which is based on Linux. As they illustrated at LinuxWorld in San Francisco, they are positioning themselves for this new future that they are creating. Palm on the other hand is still focused on their current OS and on the developer community. It's rumored that Palm is working on their own version of the Palm OS and they recently launched their own Developer Network. Does this mean that there may be two "Palm" operating systems? Time will only tell, but with Palm being the 800lb gorilla in the mobile landscape, anything is possible. Palm, Inc. News Sprint Releases Treo 700wx - Same as the Treo 700w, but with double the RAM (128MB) - Windows Mobile 5 - 700wx does NOT support MMS messaging, which the 700w does. - 700wx DOES support dial-up networking, allowing the Treo to be used as a modem for a PC, which the 700w does NOT. - Neither the 700w nor the 700wx supports voice memos as the 700p does, nor do they come with an e-book reader like the 700p. - Voice command comes on both the 700w and the 700wx, but apparently is on the CD of the 700p and costs extra to use. - Both W's support the Palm Wi-Fi SD card, and you can surf the web while using voice on the phone.
